John was the practice’s first hire when the practice opened in 1999. Since then, he has served as our downtown practice manager, lead optician, and head frames purchaser. After formal training and study, he passed the North Carolina State Board in 1994. While Texas is not a licensed state for opticians, our practice appreciates the knowledge and skill-set this professional license brings.
John truly loves helping our patients. He has an amazing knack of remembering the names and frame and Rx information of the thousands of patients with whom he has worked. He says, “Our industry is constantly changing and improving. I love working at an independent practice that has full access to everything our patients can benefit from.” John particularly loves assisting patients with complicated prescriptions.
When asked about the differences between his native North Carolina and his current state of Texas, his response is a no brainer. “North Carolina beaches are much better than Texas beaches, but Texas Bar-B-Q reigns supreme.” Outside of the office when not “enhancing the world through optics” or reminding our patients to “check yearly, see clearly,” John enjoys hanging out with his rescue pups Stella and McGraw.
Michael was Dr. Schottman’s second hire for the practice. What a great decision that was! He has been with Stars In Your Eyes since 2000 building the practice and serving the downtown community with pride. In addition to being a great optician, he is a wizard in the lab precisely handcrafting the lenses for most of the frames he helps patients choose. Michael feels a sense of family for our team and nurturing care and respect for all the longtime-patients with whom he works. He treats his work as he would his home – expecting people to feel welcome and comfortable in both, in keeping with that spirit of family.
Brooke has been working as an Optician for over 20 years and has a true eye for finding the right frame for each face and prescription. Being a born and raised Texan, Brooke loves seeing the Lone Star State; and what better way to see it then ridding her Harley with her husband James. Not many love dogs more than Brooke, but by far her favorite is her dog Cash. Brooke says her goal as an Optician is to “make sure that every person she fits is happy and confidant with their frame choice.”
Josh is our outgoing humorist, and with his diverse experience in the optical industry, he will ensure that your experience is fun and informational. Besides capturing the right frame for each patient, Josh captures images and stories to keep our social media fresh. While Josh is not in the optical, you can find him out on an adventure, hiking the green belt or taking a road trip across the country. Josh’s optical aspiration is to “bring the art back to being an Optician.”
Steve Schottman is our business manager who was lucky enough to marry his eye doctor. Originally trained as an architect and regional planner, he has morphed his love of design and data analysis into overseeing the behind the scenes workings of the Stars In Your Eyes offices. If you’ve been to our Hancock Drive location for a number of years, you’ve witnessed his interest in design and construction – as the space has been remodeled and reconfigured a number of times.
Courtney is the glue that keeps our Rosedale location together. While working in the optical industry for around 10 years, she has collected the knowledge to run our busy practice. Courtney’s loving and caring heart has given her a true passion for animals. The smiling faces of her four German Shepherds is definite validation. She aims to ensure that every patient we see leaves with the best experience possible.
